• 20th Annual St. Catharines Rotary Club Lobsterfest ^New September 13, 2008
  The St. Catharines-Lakeshore Rotary Club will be holding their 20th Annual Lobsterfest in September 2008. Feast on steamy lobster, roast beef, baked potatoes, corn-on-the-cob and enjoy the fresh salad bar. Tickets are $75.00 per person and can be purchased from Rotary members or by visiting the reception desk at the Howard Johnson Hotel, QEW and Lake St. location, or by calling 905-934-5400. All proceeds from the Lobsterfest benefit Rotary Community Service Projects in St. Catharines.

• Merritton Lions Club Community Days ^New Friday August 29 - Monday September 1, 2008
  The Merritton Lion's Club is holding its annual Community Days events Labour Day weekend, Aug 29th to Sept. 1st. Carnival grounds are open Fri. 5-9 pm, Sat. 12-10 pm, Sun 12-6 pm and Mon 12-9 pm, for rides, games, food and fun. There is a Beef on a Bun dance on Fri. at 8 pm, a Poker run on Sun at 11 am, Beer Garden Mon at 12 noon, Lioness Bingo Mon. 1 pm till 9 pm and the Merritton Lion's Labour Day Parade Mon. at 11 am. The Parade starts at Kernahan Park High School up Hartzel Rd. to Merritton Lion's Community Park. All events are held at 7 Park Ave. St. Catharines, all proceeds to Lion's and local area projects.

• St. Catharines Kiwanis Million Dollar Hole in One ^New August 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 2008
  The St. Catharines Kiwanis Inc. presents the Kiwanis Million Dollar Hole in One. Are you ready to tee off for hole in one challenge? It’s a long shot. Next week one lucky golfer could win $1 million by sinking a hole in one.
  Returning for its 10th year, the Kiwanis Club of St. Catharines hole-in-one contest gives golfers a chance to swing for 100’s of prizes. Held at Westport Practice and Training Facility on Third Street, the event takes place over five days from Aug 20 -24 from 11 a.m. to dusk, with prizes awarded each day.
  Anyone who plays on any day can end up being a qualifier for the final event. On each day of the competition, the 10 players whose balls land closest to the hole at the 100 yard mark, qualify for the final. Mid-afternoon Aug. 24 the pin will be moved out to 150 yards, as the 50 semifinalists swing for the grand prize of $1 million. As well, the player who gets closest to the pin in this round will win a trip to Whistler to compete at another hole in one contest in September. On August 21 there’s a special women’s day competition the ladies shooting for special prizes.
